The concept behind soap making revolves around saponification. Saponification is simply the process of making soap from fats, oils and alkali. Soaps are practically salts of fatty acids which are effective in cleaning the body. As soaps are used on the skin, the salts trap the dirt. As the soap is washed off from the body, dirt is also washed off.

It is just critical to know the exact amount of each ingredient for this method. Hot process on the other hand is just heating the ingredients when making the soap. Purity of the soap is guaranteed for the hot process as the saponification is complete. The melt and pour method is the simplest method for soap making. This is a pre-mixed soap base that you have to melt and pour in the mold.
Homemade soaps are very gentle on the skin. Since these are made from scratch, you know the ingredients that you put in your soap. Depending on what you want to have, you can alter the formulation of the soap. Just make sure to apply superfatting or the addition of excess fats to make the soap skin-friendly.
